Argo Environmental Adds Key Underwriters to Insure Risks Associated With Environmental Insurance

Argo Group announces five key new Environmental hires.

HAMILTON, Bermuda, December 9, 2020 – Argo Environmental, a member of Argo Group International Holdings Ltd. (NYSE: ARGO), an underwriter of specialty insurance, today announced the appointments of several recent underwriter hires to bolster the existing U.S. Environmental staff. The new hires include Joy Christie as vice president, Phillip Martell as assistant vice president, Jeff Chao as senior underwriter, Brandon Turner as underwriter, and Yuriy Cherepnya as underwriter. All join Argo with immediate effect and report to David Corry, senior vice president, head of Environmental.

The five new underwriters hired have combined industry experience of over 70 years, add deep underwriting expertise to the environmental practice and are strategically located across the U.S. to support Argo Group’s growing broker network.

“There is increasing demand from businesses for environmental insurance coverage, and our newly hired underwriters are well known with our U.S. brokers as strong solution providers,” said Corry. “These new team members, along with our existing underwriting staff, reaffirm the company’s commitment to the environmental business and position us well to provide industry-leading products as a market of choice for our brokers.”

Argo Environmental provides environmental liability insurance and related insurance products to a range of businesses, including those that operate in the environmental industry and those that face environmental liabilities arising from their industrial and commercial activities.

Christie joins Argo from Navigators and formerly held roles at Zurich, AIG and Chubb. He has more than 20 years of underwriting experience and graduated from DeVry University.

Martell joins Argo from Markel and formerly held roles at AIG and several environmental engineering firms. He has 25 years of combined underwriting, claims and environmental engineering experience; he graduated from Rutgers University and is a registered professional geologist. Martell is also a veteran of the armed forces, having spent 10 years in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Chao joins Argo from Aspen Insurance and formerly held roles at Liberty International Underwriters and AIG. He has more than 10 years of underwriting experience and graduated from the University of California Riverside.

Turner joins Argo from Starr Companies and was formerly at Liberty Mutual. He has 10 years of combined underwriting and claims experience. He has an undergraduate degree from the University of Kansas and a Master of Business Administration from Baker University.

Cherepnya joins Argo from Markel and has over seven years of underwriting and underwriting support experience. He graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University and has professional designations for Associate in General Insurance (AINS) and Certified Professional Insurance Agent (CPIA) and is currently completing his Master of Business Administration. Cherepnya is also a veteran of the armed forces, having served in the U.S. Air Force and Air Force Reserve.
